FOCUS IS THE SECRET OF
LIFE
The
successful man is the average man, focussed.
From the
moment you were born, your mind began sucking up information,
storing it away, and using it to create an internal map of who
you are and what your relationship is to the rest of the world.
This internal map of reality is what creates the internal
experiences you have and the external results you get in your
life.
How this
map is constructed is the main determining factor of your
success or your failures, and your happiness or unhappiness.
Unfortunately, this map - and its moment by moment workings -
happen, for almost everyone, unconsciously, outside their
awareness. This means that your map often creates results that
you do not want, without your being able to see how they are
generated. Because they are generated unconsciously, these
results seem as if they "just happen," rather than they
actually come from you. To create the results you want, inside
and out, and to do so consciously and intentionally, you must
remake that map in such a way that it performs the way you want
it to.
The real
secret behind all of these things, the engine that pulls the
train, the one factor, that when you "get it" causes your
beliefs, your values, your sorting methods, your ways of making
distinctions, your internal filters, your ways of making
internal representations of reality to yourself, and all your
internal states and external results, to fall into place is
what you focus your mind on.
You see
your mind is so powerful that whatever you focus it on happens.
Your mind has such creative power that whatever you focus it on
comes to be. The problem is 99.99% of people are doing their
focussing unconsciously. They are not choosing, with awareness,
what to focus on. They are allowing their brain to focus on
whatever it has been programmed to focus on, getting the
results of that focussing, and then wondering what in the devil
happened.
Here's an
example of how the process can go amiss. When people are
abused, wounded or traumatised in some way, they say to
themselves: "The word is dangerous, and I have to watch out for
dangers so I can avoid them." They focus on potential dangers,
think about them and watch out for them.
What does
your brain do when you do this? It takes the fact that you are
focussing on something as an instruction to create it, or draw
it to you and it flawlessly does so.
Plus, if
there a lot of emotion attached (which often there is), your
brain thinks: "Not only do I need to create this, it's
urgent."
So if you
are getting what you do not want in life, internally or
externally, the root cause is that you are focussing your mind
on avoiding what you don't want, and your brain is creating for
you what you are focussing on.
This means
that when you worry about something, your mind thinks you want
it!
Of course,
when you get what you don't want, you tend to think you must
not have focussed hard enough on avoiding it, so you redouble
your efforts, which causes your brain to redouble its efforts,
and then you get more of what you don't want, so you focus even
harder, and on and on.
If you
focus your mind on what you want - if you talk to yourself
about what you want, make pictures inside of what you want,
think about what you want, and so on and so on, your beliefs
will reorganise themselves in such a way that you get what you
want, your values will change to support what you want, and
your brain will create the internal strategies you need, the
filters you need, the sorting process you need and everything
else you need.
Yes it
helps to work with each of these areas, correcting the problems
that might be causing you to create the outcomes you don't
want.
But the
master switch is your focus. If you decide what you want, and
relentlessly focus your mind on it, all the rest of your
internal map of reality will reshape itself to allow your brain
to create whatever you are focussing on.
It does
not matter if you are focussing on wealth, health, friends,
happiness, inner peace - or all the things you are afraid of
or, don't want, or are worried about. If you focus on it, your
brain, like iron fillings being dragged along by a magnet, will
reform itself in whatever way necessary to get you whatever you
focus on.
You are
already good at this. Whatever is happening for you, right now,
is the result of whatever you have focussed your mind on. The
problem is not your mind's ability to create reality, which is
pretty much infinite. The problem is that up to now, you have
been doing your focussing unconsciously, sometimes getting what
you want, and sometimes getting what you don't want.
There are
three ways to correct this. You can look at, and take apart,
each aspect of your reality: your beliefs, values, decisions,
attitudes, filtering mechanisms, ways of storing and retrieving
information, and so on. You can practice, practice, practice,
until you train yourself to notice those times when you are
focussing on what you don't want, and then every time you
notice this negative focus, you change to focussing on what you
do want. Simply put: decide and keep what works, and redo what
doesn't.
The second
way is to meditate. When you meditate, your conscious awareness
of all these internal processes becomes greater and greater,
and what was unconscious becomes conscious. As that happens,
you begin to see the effect of focussing indiscriminately and
unconsciously... and you stop doing it.
The third
way is hypnosis. Through hypnosis you become aware of how all
these different aspects of your internal map of reality
generate your experience and results of life. The parts that do
not serve can be easily reprogrammed (by you or the
hypnotherapist) to align with your conscious goals and desires.
Old habits and behaviours fade away. Why? Because you can
continue to do something that does not serve you only if you do
it unconsciously.
So there
you have it. The whole secret to life is what you focus on. If
you want to be in charge of what you create, learn to focus
your mind intentionally and consciously on what you want. If
that's the only thing you do, you will be fine. Because what
you focus on controls everything else.
Now that
you know, go do it.
